Pawnee Police Department - Programs

Pact Camp (Police and Children Together)

Objective: Designed for underprivileged children, including children who may be having problems or trouble at school, or children who have come to the attention of the Police. It is also intended for children who have few opportunities for summer recreations, and may not have had the chance to go to a camp in their lifetime.

The goal of our camp is to help children have FUN and to help them view Police Officers as regular people.

Safe House Program

Objective: To maintain a safety program for the protection of children and any other member of the Community who may require assistance in an emergency situation.

Requirements: Parents available when children are normally on the streets, for example, before and after school. All Safe House volunteers will be screened by the Pawnee Police Department.

The Safe Houses can be identified by red or orange signs with the words “SAFE HOUSE” on the sign. These signs will be displayed on the windows of safe homes.

Neighborhood Watch

Objective: Provides a unique infrastructure that brings together local Officials, Law Enforcement and Citizens to protect our community.

File of Life

Objective: Saves lives, one group in particular needs special emphasis, and that is Senior Citizens. It could mean the difference between life and death.

    Economical | Effective | Efficient

Bicycle Program

Objective: With the benefit of bicycle Officers it became apparent in terms of personal contact and interaction with the citizens of the Community and greatly enhanced mobility, especially in crowds and special event situations.

R.I.S.E. (Responsibility Increases Student Excellence)

Sangamon County taught until 1997 and then we took over.

Objective: Collaborative effort by R.I.S.E. Law Enforcement Officers, educators, students, parents and the community to offer an educational program in the classroom to prevent or reduce drug abuse and violence among children and youth.

The emphasis of R.I.S.E. is to help students recognize and resist the many direct and subtle pressures that influence them to experiment with alcohol, tobacco, marijuana, inhalants, or other drugs or to engage in violence.

To raise money for R.I.S.E. day, the Department holds an annual R.I.S.E. car wash. With the money raised, we take the 6th grade participants roller-skating. Prizes are purchased along with R.I.S.E. t-shirts. We will be holding our 9th Annual Car Wash this year.

CPR Lessons Available

Will teach 3 times a year. For more information, contact Officer Shawn Burnley at 625-2341.
